Horizons September 2022

Come Home!

It’s time to revive an old First UMC tradition and look forward to Homecoming Sunday, September 11th this year.

Homecoming will look different now as we live into being a Both/And congregation. Each week, many of us worship online, for all kinds of reasons—health, distance, work and family schedules, preference. We celebrate our online congregation. And if you’ve gotten to know First UMC online, consider in-person worship. Together we look forward to joining in prayer, worship, fellowship and service as the Fall begins.

If you’ve simply gotten out of the habit of making your way to church, it’s time to re-consider. A couple of folks showed up recently and announced: “We decided that it’s time to be back!” We continue safe practices—ventilation in the sanctuary, Coffee Hour in the Courtyard, and recommending masks indoors. Everyone is being very respectful of one another’s comfort level and health. Whoever you are, you are missed! Reach out to someone you’ve missed seeing, sitting near, or sharing a cup of coffee with (to say nothing of a donut!).

Plan now to worship together on September 11th. We will celebrate and greet our New Members. Our Choir will have resumed rehearsals after their summer break. Youth group will enjoy a Family Dinner on the 11th and resume meetings on the 18th. Sunday School and other activities continue. Rev. Larry Young is offering a new Bible Study beginning at the end of the month.

Plan to Come Home this month. Come Home to God. Come Home to church. Come home to the earth. Come Home to mission as we serve together for the transformation of the world.

I look forward to serving, praying, fellowshipping, and worshiping with ALL of you!

Rev. Patricia Farris, Senior Minister
