Horizons May 2023
We continue to journey together through this 50-day season of Eastertide, asking ourselves: “What Are You Seeing?” What new life do you see springing up? Where are you seeing signs of the Risen Christ? What new commitments and dreams is our Risen Lord calling forth in you?
Responding to our Missions and Service Conversation a few weeks ago and requests from many of you, our Missions Council has designated the month of May as a Month of Service. They have researched and pulled together a list of local mission opportunities that make it possible for us to jump into hands-on service in our community as individuals and as families. It’s all here in the pages of this Sentinel. Check them out and let us know what your experience is like.
Also be sure and let us know what additional ways you are already involved in service in our community. We want to hear your stories and celebrate all the ways in which the First UMC family makes possible vital service and care for all the people of our community.
Remember the words of St. Teresa of Avila which draw us to the heart of incarnation faith and life:
Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.
