Coming up this weekend, the second Sunday of Lent, we will hear Jesus teach us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow him. This is the sort of heart-awakening that opens us to new depths of growth. Jesus stands at the door and knocks, saying: Open your eyes to my presence and your hearts to my love. Open the door. Let's see where this takes us as we open our lives to God.⠀

As Black History Month comes to a close, we join together in prayer to God to guide us as we commit, beyond this month, to continue learning, becoming anti-racist and working towards beloved community. ⠀

Thank you to Michael Lamb for your reflection in this second week of Lent. ⠀

The First UMC Haiti Mission Team, led by Todd Erlandson, has continued to work with our Haiti partners during this pandemic time. Through research, the local team has identified peanuts as a valuable cash crop that requires little water to maintain, one of the great problems in Sobier. Our fundraiser, Pennies for Peanuts, will help to supply families with resources for preparing plots of land, and purchasing fertilizer and seed to grow a crop of peanuts, which can be sold for profit and also used to prepare the fields and purchase seeds for the next growing season. ⠀
