Houston Hoedown Fundraiser

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Hoedown in support of the Work Team on Sunday April 15 in the hall.  There was plenty of fun for the whole family: delicious lunch, games for the kids and of course the amazing band, Echo Mountain, and square dancin’ caller, Jeremy Horton.

About the band…

Echo Mountain is a five piece old-time string band based out of Los Angeles, featuring fiddlers Kyle McNally and Jonathan Shifflett, Peter Linden on banjo, and multi-instrumentalists Kelly Marie Martin and Ben Kramer. Together they play square dances in the LA area and have been featured performers at the Watkins Family Hour and the Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival in Grass Valley. The collective vision of Echo Mountain is to build a repertoire that reflects the full spectrum of the old-time tradition, tackling complex fiddle tunes and rich harmony singing with new energy while remaining true to traditional style and form.  Check them out here.

Update:

December 3, 2017
This church community has felt called to respond in many ways after the devastation in Houston from Hurricane Harvey. Beginning with prayer that then led into the prayerful actions of collecting items for hygiene kits, and even raising money for UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief.  We have responded over and over to the call for help and will continue to do so this Spring.   A work team will be sent to Houston April 21-28 to put our faith into action!

UMCOR Kits

By Tricia Guerrero, Director of Children & Youth Ministry

The hurricanes and natural disasters seemed to bombard our world this year. Homes destroyed and communities devastated. In these critical moments, we as Christians are called to respond when our brothers and sisters are suffering. UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is the humanitarian relief and development arm of The United Methodist Church. They act globally, through our support, to alleviate human suffering and advance hope and healing. Our community heard the call for help this year and we responded over and over again. We as a community began collecting for the UMCOR Hygiene Kits. This endeavor was accomplished by our entire community working together to help those who need it the most. With enthusiasm and heart, our Youth Group and our Messy Church community came forward. Our teens diving into the boxes of donated supplies, organizing them with the help of their youth counselors. Our youngest ones, three and four years old, assembling kits with their parents and grandparents. A Messy Church blessing in worship over the assembled kits, praying for the hands that will receive and use these items. We raised $1,240 and were able to assemble over 125 Hygiene Kits. Yet it didn’t stop there. Beyond the kits, we give thanks for the $3,885 that was donated directly by our community to UMCOR for disaster relief.
