FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF SANTA MONICA

Back to school is around the corner. Part of preparing for school is making sure we have our books and school supplies, but we also need to prepare our minds and our hearts for learning and growing. This Sunday, we will give a blessing for the school year ahead. Normally we hand out our traditional “backpack blessing tags” during worship. This year, we’re doing it a little different! We’re giving blessing tags to the students and teachers in our Church, Preschool and Upward Bound House communities. We invite you to have your blessing tags with you during worship for the time of blessing. If you haven’t yet received one or know someone who would like one, call the church office about extras.

This beginning holds a lot of unknowns and will take all of the strength, courage and hope that we have within us. For our students and their families, for our teachers and school administrators. Yet we know we are never alone. God is always with us. 

I hope your family can be part of online worship this weekend as we consider the meaning of “Blessed to be a Blessing” and reflect on the ways God is blessing us and calling us to be a blessing to others during this strange and unique time in our world.
