Advent Study with Bill Buxton & Pastors
For Advent this year, we will be studying the book “Heaven and Earth” by Will Willimon, a retired Methodist bishop and professor at Duke Divinity School. During the four weeks, we will be exploring the ways Jesus’ birth is a crucial point in God’s plan for human history and for eternity.
The first week, we will explore the ways Jesus’ birth introduced revolutionary change and launched God’s Kingdom based not on human power but on justice and love. Next, we will reflect on how God calls us to ongoing repentance and conversion. In the third week, we will meditate on the introduction to John’s gospel and how every part of our lives witnesses to Jesus. Finally, we will join Mary and Elizabeth’s prayers in praising God for the promised reign of love and of freedom from oppression that became realized in Jesus.
I hope that you can join us for this time when we can reflect on Advent as a time not only to remember but also to renew our commitment as participants in God’s ongoing work of creation and redemption, rooted in love. Limited number of books available at the Welcome Table for $12 beginning November 8.
