Intergenerational Service Trip
First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica has a history of responding to disaster relief and engaging in long-term recovery efforts as well as organizing summer service trips dedicated to assisting underserved communities. Building on this deep foundation and history of service and outreach, we are excited for this summer’s week-long intergenerational service trip scheduled for Saturday, August 1, to Saturday, August 8, 2026. Contact Tricia to inquire about joining the team for a week of service.
We will collaborate with the Sierra Service Project (SSP), sending a work team from our congregation to the Navajo Nation in Arizona. SSP has hosted volunteers in the Navajo Nation since 2014, with its most recent work in 2023 involving the Tsaile-Wheatfields and Lukachukai chapters. The service projects planned for this summer will concentrate on high-impact home repair, encompassing the construction of accessibility ramps, stairs, porches, awnings for snow protection, sheds for storing heating wood, and other general home maintenance tasks.
Save the date for Sunday, July 19 when the team will be commissioned (given a blessing) during the 10 a.m. worship service. Afterward, please stay for their fundraiser lunch event at 11 a.m. in Simkins Hall.
We invite you to support our team through your prayers and gifts!
