Faithful and Inclusive: The Bible, Sexuality and The United Methodist Church
Led by Tricia Guerrero and hosted by the Open Space Young Adult Group – they welcome ALL AGES to join in this 5-session, video-based study that explores how United Methodists can be completely faithful to the authority of Scripture and fully inclusive of LGBTQ people.
Offering a Wesleyan approach to the interpretation of scripture, it allows ample time for thoughtful small-group discussion. The seven biblical passages most commonly cited on this topic are studied from a comprehensive perspective of content, context, and culture.
Rob Fuquay is the author-presenter of the video study. He is the author of several published biblical studies and the pastor of St. Luke’s UMC in Indianapolis, Indiana. The videos also feature twelve LGBTQ laypersons and parents of LGBTQ children who share their faith stories.
Faithful and Inclusive will create a safe space for small groups to listen and learn and to have a constructive, courageous conversation. You can attend one class or all – each is a stand-alone session.
Wednesdays, June 8, June 22, July 13, July 27, August 10, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., via Zoom
Supplies needed: Bible, pen and paper
Open Space is a young adult ministry that offers community for young adults to journey alongside one another in spiritual discovery, growth, and belonging. They gather on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at 7 p.m., in-person and online, for conversations on faith and life, engaging in prayer and study. Instead of one leader for the group, they have chosen to have a leadership team model consisting of the following group members Mia Staraci, Brandon Searfoss, Molly Smith, Spencer Dewald and Lindsay Crossan, and Lauren Foxwell.
We seek to foster an open-minded culture where all are invited to spark deep conversation and find spiritual meaning in a safe and diverse environment. People ask us what this means. For us, it means that everyone is invited to the table, just as you are. It means holding space for one another as we explore spiritual meaning. It means gathering together and learning ways to better love the world around us. And it means we have a lot of fun together! We would love to answer any questions or get you connected to our Wednesday night Zoom gatherings.
