There are several on-going service opportunities available at First UMC and the greater Santa Monica community:
- Communion Servers Needed
Each month when communion is offered in church, members of the Communion Server Ministry take communion out to those who cannot be present during the service. By including others, we expand the Table of the Lord to include those who cannot be present in body. The volunteers who are involved in this ministry feel blessed in being able to serve in this way. If you are interested in becoming a communion server, please contact Anne Premer (a.premer@santamonicaumc.org) or the church office. We offer training and on-going support to our communion servers. - The People Concern: Weekend Sandwich Making at the Access Center
The People Concern host an on-going sandwich making service. They say, “We are still growing our core group for this activity – if you would like to join in, first fill out the volunteer form: https://www.volgistics.com/appform/1039643572, then sign up for a shift here: Weekend Volunteers 2023.xlsx.”
As a reminder: Sandwich making takes place every Saturday and Sunday at our Access Center at 503 Olympic Blvd, Santa Monica, CA. It starts at 8 a.m. and ends at noon. Please sign up using the link above before attending any shifts to ensure we don’t have too many volunteers. If you have any questions, please email Kristen McDermott at kmcdermott@thepeopleconcern.org. - Harvest Home: At their new Pico Home, Harvest Home hosts Donation Days on Saturdays. A group of 5 but no more than 10 is ideal between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to help collect, sort, and fold items donated that day or during the week. There are tasks for all ages. Reach out to Tricia Guerrero if you (and/or your group) have interest in participating in a volunteer day.
- Westside Food Bank: Food sorting days – more info coming soon.
